Why You Should Hire an AV – Rated Attorney in New Jersey

How to Have Confidence that Your Lawyer Will Adequately Protect Your Rights

When you need legal counsel, unless you have worked with an attorney in the past, you may have no way of knowing whether the counsel you hire will zealously and effective protect your interests. Luckily, there are some standards that can help you determine whether you should retain a particular attorney. The Peer Review Rating System® offered by Martindale – Hubbell is one. Attorney Adam M. The Value of the AV-Rating

Martindale – Hubbell’s Peer Review Rating System is set up to provide evaluations of attorneys by those most qualified to understand their skills and abilities—other lawyers and judges who have personal knowledge of their work. Here’s how the basic process works:

  • All attorneys listed in the Martindale – Hubbell directory who have been in practice for at least three years, and are in good standing are subject to peer review. Any lawyer who wants a peer review rating must also agree to rate others in his or her geographic region and practice area.
  • Martindale – Hubbell sends surveys to all qualified attorneys, asking them to rank others in their geographic and practice areas. These surveys are all completed anonymously.
  • Those being evaluated are judged on legal knowledge, analytical capabilities, judgment, communication ability and legal experience. The scale is 1 to 5, though attorneys are not subject to rating at all without having met certain criteria. Accordingly, an AV-rating (indicating a composite rating of 4.5 or above), the highest issued by Martindale – Hubbell, is given only to the best of the best.
  • Martindale – Hubbell randomly selects a number of rated attorneys and verifies their ratings through interviews with attorneys and judges.
